May Giveaway: Cheer Me Up?

I’m feeling not good. Like.. not good at all. Cheer me up? I have to admit, I have noticed that my mood and the stats of this blog do actually affect eachother. Good mood, I leave more comments, I have higher stats. Highter stats, I’m in a good mood, I hop around a little more. This starts to be borderline pathetic.
Right now I don’t have the time to do that, though, so I’ll have to bribe people. LOL Hey, come on, at least I’m honest about it, right?

As always, the Monthly Giveaways are about showing my readers (new and old) that I appreciate them, so every comment you leave counts as one entry. And as always I have a little widget below. If you have left at least one comment below a post (not this one!) you can enter there and get extra entries. Those are automatically added and you don’t need to fill out a form or anything.
This time, though, I’ll add something. For every 40 followers* I gain, I’ll add prices. This can either mean the winner will get two books, or that there will be four winners or whatever. I’m PMSing, so please let me.
Also, if you manage to cheer me up in any other way, you’ll get lots of extra entries. (Like, say.. Sing a song for me. ;D)

Here is what’s up for grabs:

Additionally to the books below come all their pre– and sequels (or spin offs) as well several others, for example books you mention in the comments* and from the Goodreads comfort reads list here! As well as every book mentioned in the comfort reads comments. ;)

Recently, I got some super awesome shoes from Charlotte Russe. One of those pairs being the ones pictured above (which are my favorite!)

I have gotten so many compliments on them - So... I decided to do a giveaway for a pair! Not necessarily for the same pair, but any pair of the winners choice :)!

I was going to open this giveaway up to US only, as I think Charlotte Russe only delivers to the US, but I decided that if the winner lives internationally I will have the shoes of their choice shipped to me, and I will ship directly to the winner :)

The Giveaway!
One of you will receive your choice of shoes from Charlotte Russe! Open to international entries

Fairy Tale Giveaway Hop **International**

This giveaway hop is hosted by Kathy at I am a Reader, Not a Writer.
Click here to view the other participating blogs

I'm so excited about this giveaway guys - fairy tale adaptations and re-tellings are becoming so much more popular nowadays, and I think that's a truly great thing to see.
When it's a tale you already recognise and love, but with a whole new, unique and exciting twist, it can really get your heart racing! Definitely exciting stuff!

This giveaway hop is not entirely what you will be used to! It's something new and exciting!
Before I get into the business of the giveaway, the different bloggers taking part in this hop have been asked to talk about their favourite fairy tales in some way. So what I have decided to do, is tell you a little about my favourite fairy tale character, and why I like them so much.

Due to the fact that I studied Children's Fiction in University last semester, and a large portion of the module was focused on fairy tales, I may ramble on a little bit about the evolution of the fairy tale - but I guess that is kind of relevant, seeing as the books I will be offering to the winner are in fact, the newest generation of evolved fairy tales!
So here is the ramble:

I think, out of all many hundreds of various fairy tale characters across the world, my favourite has to be Red Riding Hood. Though I feel that I must point out that it is not her original incarnation in the tales of Charles Perrault, or even before him, that I adore - no, she was a feminist's worst nightmare! - I am talking about post-eighteenth century Red Riding Hood, the girl that was born, I suppose, from the tales of the Brothers Grimm.
The Grimms' version of Little Red Cap, as she had been known in Perrault's version of the tale, was a much stronger, more independent character. The first tale the Grimms told was a familiar tale to us all; Little Red Riding Hood gets eaten by the nasty, predatory (male) wolf, and is rescued, along with her Grandmother, by the strong, fearless Huntsman (yak!). However, there is a short tale at the end of the Brothers Grimm version, that tells of a second wolf attack on the little girl, and this time, armed with her new knowledge of their cunning, she defeats him herself, drowning him in a trough of water.
Contemporary versions of Little Red Riding Hood are even better, depicting her as entirely independent, strong-minded, physically strong (in some cases), intelligent, and frankly, just a bit kick-ass.

Right! Now for the rules of the giveaway!
  • You must be a follower of Pen to Paper via Google Friend Connect (GFC) to enter. My giveaways are for my wonderful followers, so why not become one of them?
  • I will need your exact GFC follower name in the Rafflecopter. I reserve the right to disqualify any entrants who are not following.
  • There will be one winner who will get to choose one book from the list I provide. Please note that these may be a paperback pre-order - but I will inform you of this if you choose that particular book.
  • I will email the winner when the contest is over, and they will then have 48 hours to reply to the email.
  • As I will be ordering the prize from The Book Depository, I cannot be held responsible for any books that are received damaged, or lost in the post. Though I will try my best to rectify the situation with The Book Depository.
  • Please do not leave your email address in the comments anywhere on my blog. I use Rafflecopter to keep your details safe, so please take advantage of this.
  • The giveaway winner will be announced on this post when they have replied to my email.
  • The giveaway ends on May 1st 2012 at 23:59 EST
Now for the exciting bit ... which books can you win?! As always, you can click on each image to take you to the relevant Goodreads page, to read up on each book.

April Giveaway & Blogoversary!!

Nope, not my cake! Although I dreamed that it was, if that counts. ;)

You know you're cool WHEN... you forget your own blogoversary! x) I can't believe I didn't remember the exact date! March 26, 2011 was the day I created this blog and posted my first (and kind of embarrassing) post, meaning that Mimi Valentine's YA Review Blog (which really needs a new name haha) is officially one year old!

I kind of feel nostalgic right now. :')

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone for your support and your comments and your overall awesomeness, and for not feeling creeped out by me when I drop by your blog. ♥ I hope you guys know that reading what you guys have to say (and gush about) is always what makes blogging worth it. This year wouldn't have been the same without all of you! :)

Soooo..... you want to know about the giveaway, right?

The Rules:
  1. There will be TWO winners.
  2. Giveaway ends on May 1, 2012 @ 11:59 p.m.
  3. Be a follower (through GFC or RSS).
  4. Be 13 or older.
  5. Live anywhere that The Book Depository ships to (which is basically everywhere!)
  6. Fill out the form.
The Prize:

Since this is very last minute (and I mean just-shot-out-of-bed-last-night-and-realized-I'm-an-idiot last minute), I'll stick with the prize for my regular monthly giveaway except there will be TWO winners instead of one. I hope that's okay for now!

Each of the winners will get to choose any one book from the list of anticipated near-April releases below! Or if you would like another book that releases around this time instead, I could definitely substitute that in as long as it's under $20 (USD). :)

I can't believe it's already April! Own up - who's been stealing time?!
Ugh, seriously though, it's come around way too quickly!
However, it is now spring, and that is good news. The other good news is that I've decided to run an international giveaway throughout April to celebrate the warmer weather, and the upcoming summer time reading (which we all love, yes?!).
Great!
The books that are up for grabs are new 2012 releases (except one, which is the first in the series of another book, which is new - if that makes sense?) so this is an extra-super-amazing giveaway!

So, the first thing I'll do, as usual, is to lay down the rules of the giveaway, and then I'll let you know what's up for grabs, and then you can enter! Sound good? Yes!

  • You must be a follower of Pen to Paper via Google Friend Connect to enter. I will need you to enter your exact GFC follower name into the Rafflecopter below (and if you have a follower name that is just your first name, please leave a little extra info, so I can identify you - like a link to your follower profile or something).
  • I reserve the right to disqualify any entrant if they are not a follower of the blog (as the only mandatory entry), or if they enter an extra entry, but do not carry out the task. This is to make sure the giveaway is fair for those who have entered everything correctly.
  • The giveaway is international to anyone that The Book Depository will deliver free to. Not sure? Click here.
  • There will be one winner for this giveaway, who will get to choose one book from the list I will provide later in this post.
  • There is one mandatory entry for following Pen to Paper via GFC, and then there are optional extra entries. These are entirely optional, but they could mean the difference between you winning, or someone else taking the prize.
  • When I email the winner, they will have 48 hours to reply to the email with the needed information, before I will have to draw another winner, and they will lose their prize. The book needs to go to someone!
  • As I will be ordering the prize from The Book Depository, I cannot be held responsible for any damaged or lost books, but I will do my best to chase the order up if something is wrong.
  • Please don't leave your email address anywhere in the comments on the blog. I use rafflecopter to keep your details safe, so please take advantage of that!
  • The giveaway will run throughout April, ending on April 30th at 23:59 EST.
And now for the prizes! I will leave links underneath the book covers, so you can go and check each book out on goodreads :)

All you need to do now is make sure you're following and then get entering! One of the extra entries is to add the giveaway button to your blog - the code for this can be found at the bottom of this post :)

"Emergency Kit" Giveaway - 1 Winner - Open Worldwide - Ends 3/31

So.. I really wanted to wait for this giveaway... But I just couldn't wait!

This giveaway kindof goes 1 in 1 with the Guatemalan Worry Doll giveaway that I posted yesterday, so I thought, why not go ahead and post it?

This is another item I found at the World Market. It's called an "Emergency Kit." The emergency kit includes an angel for peaceful thoughts, a lucky bean, and a worry doll.

Everything you need :)! An angel to help keep you sound, a bean to bring you luck, and a worry doll to help get your worries at bay.

I just loved these little emergency kits.. So I had to get 2! These awesome kits are also handmade in Guatemala; So they are very special, and support the Maya people :)
